Red Duiker
(Cephalophus rufilatis)
Red duikers
are found across the African continent. They prefer forested areas and
riverine thickets within the savannah.
The red
duiker is a bright orange-red antelope with pale
grey to black on the face, back and legs. The males stand up to 65cm
tall, and weigh up to 14kg. The sexes are very similar, with the males
horns being longer.
They
feed on fruit, flowers and foliage from a number of species of riverine
trees.
Red duicker
tend to be seen singly or in pairs. They can breed
year round. If disturbed, they will emit a shrill bark while bounding for
cover.
One
has to be watchful and observant when hunting red duiker. We welcome our
client to join us on a red duiker hunt here at South African Hunting
Safaris.
